No Reschedule or Cancel Button on US Visa AIS? Your MRV Fee May Have Expired
You log in to change your US visa interview and the Reschedule Appointment and Cancel Appointment buttons you were counting on simply aren’t there — greyed out, or gone entirely. Before you decide the system is broken, check the single most common explanation: your MRV visa fee has expired.
Key point: The missing buttons are the symptom; an expired fee is usually the cause. The US visa (MRV) fee stays valid for one year — once it lapses, AIS hides your scheduling options until you pay a fresh fee.
The first clue: no Reschedule or Cancel button
Hardly anyone sees a tidy “your fee has expired” error. What people actually notice is that the actions they need have quietly vanished:
- The Reschedule Appointment button is missing or disabled.
- The Cancel Appointment button is missing or disabled.
- You may not even be able to start a brand-new booking.
When your scheduling controls disappear like this, an expired visa fee should be the very first thing you check.
Why it happens: the MRV fee lasts only one year
The US visa application (MRV) fee is valid for one year from the date you paid it. Inside that window you’re free to book, reschedule, or cancel an interview. Let the year slip past without using it and the fee expires — and the system strips away your ability to schedule with it. That’s exactly why the buttons go missing.
This catches two groups especially hard: people who paid early and kept holding out for an earlier date that never opened, and people whose trip got pushed back by long administrative processing.
How to check your fee’s expiry date
Your fee receipt carries an expiration date — something like 2026-09-27. You’ll find it on your payment receipt, or in the fee section of your AIS account. If today’s date is later than that date, the fee is expired, and that explains the absent buttons.
How to fix it: pay a new visa fee
Once the fee has lapsed, the way back is straightforward:
- Confirm the expiry date on your fee receipt.
- Pay a new MRV visa fee. The old, expired fee generally can’t be reused or refunded.
- Wait for the new payment to register in the system — this can take a while after you pay.
- Once the new fee is active, the Reschedule / Cancel / Schedule options come back, and you can book again.
Don’t let it expire a second time
If you’ve already paid and you’re still hunting for an earlier appointment, keep that expiry date front of mind — it’s surprisingly easy to let the one-year window quietly run out while you wait for the perfect slot.

FAQ
Why are the Reschedule and Cancel Appointment buttons missing on AIS? The most common reason is an expired MRV visa fee. The fee is valid for one year; once it lapses, AIS hides your scheduling options, so the buttons disappear until you pay a new fee.
How long is a US visa fee valid? The MRV visa fee is valid for one year from the date of payment. You need to schedule — and attend — your interview within that window.
Can I reuse or get a refund on an expired visa fee? An expired MRV fee generally can’t be reused or refunded; you typically have to pay a new fee to book again. Check your local appointment system’s current rules to be sure.
After I pay a new fee, how soon can I book? Once the system recognizes your new payment, the Reschedule / Cancel / Schedule options return. Recognition can take some time after payment, so give it a little while before trying.
My fee isn’t expired but the buttons are still gone — why? Then the fee isn’t the issue. It’s usually that there are no available slots at your consulate, or some other account state — a separate problem from an expired fee.
